Docusign Standard vs Business Pro for intake workflows
Compare Docusign Standard and Business Pro for signer attachments, web forms, payments, and bulk sending.
Choose Standard when staff can prepare each intake request and send it for signature using shared templates. Evaluate Business Pro when customers need to enter information through a web form, supply signer attachments, pay during signing, or receive a bulk send. Both annual plans list 100 envelopes per user per year; Business Pro does not provide unlimited sending. Check the current quote before buying. Docusign eSignature plans
Decide where intake happens
| Intake requirement | Plan to examine first | Decision gate |
|---|---|---|
| Staff gather the answers, prepare the agreement, and need a consistent way to send it. | Standard | Shared templates, real-time commenting, branding, and delegated signing may cover the work. |
| Customers must enter answers or supply a file as part of intake. | Business Pro | Confirm that web forms, validation, and signer attachments cover the actual questions and files required. |
| Signing must collect a payment, or a request must go to many recipients. | Business Pro | Confirm payment availability, processor terms, and bulk volume in the quote. |
Standard adds shared templates, real-time commenting, branding, and delegated signing to Personal. Business Pro includes Standard’s listed benefits and adds web forms, payment collection, interactive fields, form validation, and bulk send. Docusign’s feature table lists signer attachments for Business Pro, but not Standard. That last difference is decisive if the signer must provide a document: preparing an agreement to send and collecting a file from its signer are different intake requirements. Docusign plan comparison
Consider a hypothetical service team with three roles: an intake coordinator sends agreements, a reviewer checks the submitted information, and a customer signs. If the coordinator already has the answers and prepares every agreement before sending, Standard is the first plan to assess. If the customer must answer questions, attach a supporting file, or pay while signing, assess Business Pro. Have the reviewer identify the exact fields that require validation. A broad requirement such as “better intake” does not establish whether any Business Pro feature is needed.
Suppose that same coordinator expects 120 intake envelopes in a year. Neither listed annual plan’s 100-envelope-per-user allowance covers that expectation by itself. Choosing Business Pro for its forms does not resolve the sending volume. Sending with PowerForms also counts toward the envelope allowance. Record expected sends for each sender, then ask how the quoted seats, allowance, and bulk volume apply to the planned rollout. Do not treat a second user seat as an answer to the coordinator’s volume without confirming the quoted arrangement. Docusign envelope allowance information
Conditions that can stop the rollout
The plan choice fails if Standard is purchased for a workflow that requires Business Pro’s listed web forms, signer attachments, payment collection, or bulk send. The permission setup fails if the people assigned to prepare, review, and send cannot carry out those steps under the quoted seats and permissions. Map each step to a role and confirm that mapping before purchase.
The rollout fails its volume check if expected sends exceed the quoted allowance or the planned bulk volume has not been confirmed. It also fails its records check if the team requires an audit export but the quote does not establish that requirement. A listed feature is a starting point for this assessment, not proof that a particular seat, permission, payment arrangement, or export is included in your purchase. Docusign eSignature plans
Pre-purchase validation
- Write out one representative intake, naming who prepares, reviews, sends, and signs.
- Mark every customer-supplied answer, required attachment, validation rule, and payment step.
- Count anticipated envelopes by sender, including sends planned through PowerForms; confirm bulk volume against the quote.
- Confirm the plan, user seats, permissions, payment availability, processor terms, and audit export in the current quote.
- Check that the quoted arrangement covers the representative intake and the expected rollout volume.
