If the client needs a final copy to keep, and the file fits your account’s transfer limit and delivery window, choose Dropbox Transfer. It is designed for files that no longer need collaboration, and the recipient can download through a link without a Dropbox account. Dropbox Transfer overview Choose a Box shared link when the handoff should give the client access to a specific file or folder you maintain in Box. Set to “People with the link,” it can provide view-only access without a Box account. Box shared-link guide

For a finished video, archive, or design package, define what counts as receipt. If the client must retain the deliverable for its own records, ask them to save it and confirm the filename, size, and version. A link that opens during a meeting does not establish that the client has a usable copy. If the client only needs to inspect the work for acceptance, decide whether downloading is allowed before configuring a Box link. Its download restriction option may depend on the available settings. One plausible failure is a Box link accidentally scoped to “People in your company.” It opens for the sender, while an external client is asked to sign in and may be unable to access it. Check that the intended scope is “People with the link” if the client should enter without a Box account. Box shared-link guide Check any password and download settings in the account that will send the actual link. Neither product name establishes superior protection for this handoff.

Set the access window around the client’s review schedule. Dropbox transfers expire on a plan-dependent schedule, so ask the client to retain their downloaded copy before that date. Dropbox Transfer overview If you later change from a transfer to a Box link, send the new URL explicitly and repeat the recipient-access check. The original handoff does not establish that the replacement link has the right permissions.

Pilot the chosen method with a representative, non-sensitive file and the actual sending account. Have someone outside your organization open the link while signed out, then record whether they can access, download, and open the complete file under the intended settings. Compare its size or checksum with the source. For the real deliverable, send the version identifier and request receipt before access expires.
